Re-reading Books and Why It's Important

I started reading "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" again earlier this year. Somewhere in January.

I have already read it 2 times. But I hardly remember most of the stuff I read.

I have realized and believe that how much of the content you understand and retain from a particular book is more important than how many books you read in a week/month/year.

And how much of those learnings you'll apply to your life and work.

When I first read this book, I was fascinated to know the working of the human mind, the conscious and the subconscious parts of it.

I was intrigued by how the power of the subconscious had helped people in their life at different things.

As I continued further, I found the book a little boring and information-heavy. I stopped reading it.

Again after 3-4 months, I picked up the book to read. But this time I read through all the chapters.

I got to know more and more crazy and useful stuff.

I Learnt about different techniques that can help you make your subconscious work for you.

I did think of trying out the techniques and exercises mentioned in the book. But I never took action on them. I do remember doing this one thing though.

I used to make suggestions and affirmations with respect to health. When I saw no changes or improvements I stopped it (guess I was very impatient then, comparatively of course).

This happened almost a year ago.

Now that I was reading the book again, I did get some of my questions answered. If not completely, at least some hints on why certain things are the way they are.

This I believe is true for everyone. Reading books does answer a lot of your questions and Confusion. It acts as a guide to your life, career and many other aspects.

After this incident here's what I understood.

By the time you go back and re-read a book, you will be a different person. There will be new things you would've come across, gone through, realized, fears, worries, expectations, experiences, etc.

You will get new perspectives on old things. There will be new experiences that'll make you think and relate with what actually is written in the book.

So next time instead of setting a goal like "I will read 100 books in a year", think again. It's way better to re-read 10 of them again and again, rather than reading 100 books only once and never looking back.

What do you think?
