[Takeaways]5 Mistakes I Made Over 50 Episodes of "The Varun Duggi Show" - Varun Duggirala

I consider Varun Duggirala as the Godfather of the content industry.

Yes, I do.

Everything he puts out there is a gold mine for creators, both newbies and the established ones.

One such piece of content is his recent podcast about his learnings from doing 50 episodes of 'The Varun Duggi Show'.

So here are my takeaways from this episode, explained through memes.

Measure your personal bandwidth before getting started with anything.

The adrenaline rush you get while starting something is exciting and intimidating.

But before getting started with your projects i.e., your blog, YouTube channel, podcast, etc, think about what's comfortable to you and what you can fit into your life/week/day.

If you want to start with a blog, see if you can write often. Is it something you can take out time in your busy schedule? Will you be able to write on a weekly/daily/monthly basis?

Start from there and then scale up.

Don't over categorise the topics.

Oftentimes people consume what they consume because of the content of that individual piece of content or because of a creator or both.

People don't listen to the content on the day you put it out. People find, discover and listen at different times.

So don't over categorise the topics. Instead, put your content in one of those content themes./buckets you got.

Don't over promise and under deliver.

We always announce we'll do something and don't do it for whatever reason. Then you realise you don't have the time or resources or the bandwidth to do it.

Instead, do it first and see if you can continue doing it consistently.

You don't necessarily have to announce it and eventually, people will get on to it.

Under promise and overdeliver.

Promoting your content is as crucial as the creation itself.

What's the point if you don't get the content, in any form, in front of the people who might get value from it(unless you are creating for yourself).

You have to focus a lot more on promotion as well.

You never know which piece of content you created very early on, might get you the audience much later in your content life journey.

Find more people to bounce the stuff off

Have a team or get more people who can do things or share insights better than you do. If you already got one, stick to them.
